An artistic little twerp, Ruth Ann is rarely seen about the castle without her sketchbook. She draws in it and other items constantly, something that is not always that well accepted by those who've had their journals/homework/books/french toast drawn on. If nothing else, it must be said that she draws a mean banana slug (though she prefers to draw them smiling). Ruth Ann has something of a flare for mischief, though this is somewhat unintentional on her part, and more an off-shoot of her hyper personality and endless curiosity. She's good at History of Magic and decent at Herbology, as both are subjects that interest her, but pulls average grades in those classes that fail to hold her interest (though she tests well, when left uninterrupted).

Ruth Ann is an average student with a shorter-than-average attention span. She likes her classes, really she does! ...it's just that she's not the greatest at remembering what the class has been working on, and for some reason the professor never appreciates it when she tries to turn her toothpick into a pinto instead of a pin – particularly when it's the horse and not the bean >.> Her short attention span often works against her in class, and while she would be earning higher-than-average marks in all her classes if she could focus properly, she's lucky to pull a C+ equivalent average considering how much effort she must expend on just concentrating.

Ruth Ann was born in London to an American Muggleborn mother and an English half-blood father while her parents were visiting her father's sister. Until the age of five she lived in Venice, California, at which point the family moved to England for reasons having to do with her father's occupation as magical stone and jewelry assayer (Europe simply holds more business than the States, having a much older and more established magical community). Though she barely remembers her time in the States, Ruth Ann is of the firm belief that she and England are not meant to be – simply put, time and Ruth Ann's own desires have transformed California into a magical place of much better weather and a much more understanding environment. A large part of the reason behind this fanciful reworking is that she's frustrated with herself at the moment, being unable to preform as well as she feels she should be able to, hindered as she is by her ADD.

When she started at Hogwarts she saw it as a chance to rebel without having to suffer direct consequences. (Yes, she does get punished for acting out, but seeing as how most of her "acting out" is harmless and merely consists of being overly annoying and curious, this doesn't often happen.) She's slowly coming to realize that perhaps this is not the best course of action, and she may (or may not) be mending her ways in the future. Or at least curbing her hyperactivity. Her current life goals consist of acquiring a pet snake and successfully transfiguring a yo-yo into an owl. Also, driving her brother absolutely bonkers. But that's more a hobby than a goal.
